Now we can see why Apple acquired 3 mapping firms, the 3rd in late 2011. Siri as you will see in the video below almost completely circumvents Google Search, Google Maps and Google Places.

9to5Mac.com tells us more “A few years ago, Apple set out to seemingly reinvent this iOS mapping experience. As 9to5Mac reported in 2009, Apple scooped up their own mapping software development company called Placebase. In the summer of last year, Apple went one step further in their obvious pursuit of a completely in-house mapping solution and acquired a 3D mapping firm called Poly9.”

By getting people used to using Siri Apple is able to do the impossible, take users away from Google Search. The only weak point in that chain is Google Maps.

Here’s what a map created by C3 looks like, zoom in and you can see that it’s not a actual live image, you can see artifacting around the cars and small objects.

Here’s What C3 Looks Like In Action

Remember however that Android and iPhone split the market 50/50 and here at Google+ Marketing are predicting that that will continue to be the case in 2012. The question still remains “Will Siri or Apple’s own version of search come to the iPad?”

Of course the next question we ask ourselves next is “Is the iPad a mobile device? Or should it be counted as a really be clunky phone?” Tell me in the comments below!

After many blog posts about Google TV, like Gizmodo’s latest saying Google TV’s are being returned because the apps suck…. Here’s 8 reason’s why Google TV is misunderstood. You pick the 5 you like, then tell me what you think in the comments below……

#1 Tech writers that don’t live with a Google TV in their living room should not write articles about Google TV because when you live with a browser on your TV and the best speakers in the house connected to it, your mindset changes fast.

#2 The apps don’t suck on Google TV, there ARE NO APPS because the Android Market won’t let me install them. The Android OS is too old so I am locked out at Android build 2.1 on my Sony GTV box. Bad move Google.

#3 Apps are written in mysterious languages like HTML and JavaScript and there is no way that could be done on the browser. Want to admit it or not, apps are not much different than a browser app. Many apps you love on your phone come from the web, it’s just that the address bar and nav buttons have been removed in the app interface.

#4 Apple has somehow trained users that apps are different from something that can be delivered thru the browser.

#5 When iPhones were the first to have apps in mid 2008 there was no mobile browser that could handle what we see now thru a mobile browser, they had to be built to run locally as in installed app on an OS.

#6 Major networks have blocked Google TV which is complete BS. Blocking a Linux computer that allows me to watch what you freely put on the web (read my GTV) is just one more nail in your coffin CBS, NBC, ABC, SyFy and MTV. Instead I will watch the awesome shows on FX, like Justified and Rescue Me because FOX never did block GTVs! +100 FX!

#7 You can run some very powerful apps thru your Google TV right now by using music.google.com – Youtube.com and Amazon Instant Video. All are web apps with one click buy links so I don’t need to type. All have viewing experineces well beyond any app experience like Netflix. In fact the video quality of Amazon’s optimized for Google TV web app is quite superior to Netflix.

#8 Google has been so totally centered on slugging it out with Facebook that they forgot about us, the real people that use Google every day. Hopefully Larry Page will get Google Plus settled in, complete and return to where Google has an unrivaled foothold, a browser on my TV.

#9 You can’t see the awesome apps we are createing for Google TV becuase you don’t have one. Want to get a foothold where your competition has yet to even consider? Call me, Chris Lang, CEO at Gadget MVP for a personal consultation and TV App quote. I am here in my office…. 480-634-5728

Hope we talk soon,

Update

A reader, Scott Herrera, posed a good question of Mobile App vs Mobile Websites…. Scott said:

You think having a app can be a little confusing for let’s say a hair salon vs having a HTML mobile website?

Scott, I got my hair cut by the same person for over 20 years since I moved to Arizona in 1988.

For the life of me I cannot remember where she worked even once in that time and certainly not the name of the place. Can I remember the name of the website when I cannot remember the name of the store? Probably not.

And why would I, a guy in his 40′s care about their mobile website even if I could find it thru search on my Android or iPhone?

Now let’s think app, it’s on my phone, I can find it just by looking. But WHY in the heck would I do that? I am more likely to have my girl Mary’s phone number in my contacts than anything else… Right?

When you combine that app with say couponing, now that I can remember to use. And if you are going to give me coupons for product that I spend money on, then your app is worth something. And no, not all businesses need an app, not every person IN business needs an app.

But when Joe Martin can deliver content worthy of devotion like in the app above, then you have something worthy of a app link on my phone. Or on your your iGoogle page, or a Mobile Marketing Facebook page. Websites are a dime a dozen, it’s just not cool enough anymore to label yourself as the authority and worthy of devotion with the same thing everyone else has.

But back to why a hair salon needs a mobile app

Now Scott, let’s go back to the hair salon, you are in San Fran, and me, Phoenix. How many hair salons, providers of STYLE and COOLNESS could use an app that covers the best in style in San Francisco with their Tweets, YouTube and Facebook posts and blog posts? And that kind of app creates connections, because it relies on what a hip 20 something does, and that is use social sites. And I want my hair cut by someone who knows cool!

A Gadget MVP app like Joe’s above can bring all that activity into one place without the owner doing anything but doing what they already do on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. And no mobile website can do that without the owner lifting a finger, unless I missed something new in mobile website marketing.

Thanks for challenging my faith in what we do Scott, it’s way to easy to be complacent, too the flame of our businesses, I know I get burnt by my ego at times, thanks for the conversation….

After 6 hours in front of my Google TV tracking down why there are NO Google Apps for my Google TV yet, here’s why, maybe when and what could be…

As a Google TV user I am real unhappy, as a developer of Google TV Apps I am ok, but after taking 6 hours to figure out why the only thing I can get from the Android Market for Google TV is a Google Book, here it is….

Louis Gray shared this CNN post on Android fragmentation, and that is exactally what is holding us back now. As we still cannot use Google TV on the Android Market. All due to 3 different devices out there that all require EACH device to be updated.

Google TV’s Flash Player 10.1 version, crashes at least 10 times every hour, but there is the Adobe Flash 10.2 update in the Android Market. But we can’t get it on your Google TV because we can’t download anything from the Android Market. Not to mention why would you want to try to play a flash game on Google TV without that update?

GTV Apps, So Close I can even log into Android Market

We know it’s going to be any day now, we can even log into the Android Market with our Google TVs. The only thing holding Google TV back from using the Android Market is the Android version number. After 6 hours of searching what was being said by 17,000 users online, Tweets and Google Help forum posts, here’s what I found.

Currently Google TV owners have versions ranging from 1.5 to 2.1, the Chrome browser version number showing for the 2.1 users is Chrome 5. Some GTV owners reported that after receiving an update as late as March 16th, 2011, they still showed a 1.6 build on their machine. I personally show a 2.1 build.

As I contemplated rooting my Sony Google TV box, (no way) I really began to see why Google is very concerned about fragmentation. So are developers like myself that have been ready to provide Google TV optimized apps for months now.

So we are waiting for every Google TV to be updated, and it is unclear if it is Google’s, Sony’s or LogiTech’s fault we are waiting, much like the Android phone carriers are responsible for updating handsets. But read on, there maybe a payoff for your patience….

But Wait, It Could All Be Worth It

Have you seen the new Android Build dubbed Honeycomb? The display on these things is so deep, that it is being called Holographic, and from the videos I have seen it is. In fact it started a Apple Fanboy hoax, that the iPad 2 has a Holographic display inside it, based on a very slick video.

Take a look at one of the videos surrounding the Honeycomb release below and think that maybe the Google TV wait is well worth it…… And before you flame me, yes I know Honeycomb is a long way off…. But Google I/O us just 6 weeks away.

Authority is established by being on leading edge platforms and being anywhere your following wants to find you. So, if your competition was pushing their Android and iPhone gadgets / apps, you would be chasing their reputation and authority building.

By being first in the arms race with phone apps, embeddable gadgets and outbound platforms like iGoogle and Facebook fanpages, you are first and your competition now seems to be chasing you.

In the 80′s and 90′s would you have been without a Yellow Pages add?

In 1990 or even today would you have a business without a business card?

In 2000 would you have had a business without a website?

Or a blog in 2005? Or a business in 2010 without a Twitter account or Facebook fanpage?

Those things established your authority back then just like any brick and mortar business at one time you would have not been without a Yellow Pages ad because that was how brick and mortar businesses were found. Just as today they are found thru Google Maps listings.

So today, without more than just the run of the mill Facebook fanpage, it is just one more fanpage among the many. Same thing for your website / blogs.

It is just not enough to have great content on your blogs and a pretty theme. Your competition has one two. So what creates authority?

Well think of a Gadget MVP Gadget or Phone app as combining your business card, your website blog, your Yellow Pages listing, your squeeze page and all your Twitter and Facebook sharing into into one mobile web application that is ever where you need to be.

And we are not just talking Phone apps here, we are talking iGoogle and a widget that replaces your Facebook fanpage widget.

So as we look back over the marketing tools we have used for the last 30 years that I have been in business, (and you probably have too) we see that phone apps and social widgets are just the next tool that a business needs to have, to appear as a professional business.
